MA AFL-CIO Thanks Congressman Capuano for Standing up for Health Care

November 13, 2009

AFL-CIO President Robert Haynes, on behalf of the AFL-CIO members, thanked Congressman Michael E. Capuano for his historic vote in favor of the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962) in a letter dated November 10, 2009.

The letter states, "you and the other nine members of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation who took a stand... are showing the rest of our nation how to lead on this important moral and economic issue." It goes on to say, "...working families will remember who fulfilled the promises they were elected to keep."

The AFL-CIO letter alludes to the fact that this battle is not over, and the union pledges to continue to work with the Congressional delegation to bring to fruition the dream of affordable, accessible health care for all Americans. "We will continue to stand with you and the other nine U.S. Representatives whose talents and experience provide leadership that will guide the rest of the country throughout this debate."

Congressman Capuano, in turn, commends the AFL-CIO for vigorously championing issues important to the success of our working families. "There are many who were fighting for the health care debate to happen even before it was fashionable, and the Massachusetts AFL-CIO was chief among them. I admire their commitment to this issue going back generations and thank them for their steadfast leadership today."
