Massachusetts Congressional Delegation Calls on HUD to Fund Section 8 Vouchers the Way That Congress Intended
April 16, 2004
Members of the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation sent a letter to US Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson, calling on him to reconsider his decision to change the way section 8 vouchers are funded. The Delegation believes that HUD is not implementing the law the way Congress intended, resulting in the very real possibility that thousands of families may lose their homes.
"Congress has provided HUD with the funding necessary to renew all of the Section 8 vouchers that have been authorized, based on actual per unit costs throughout FFY 2004... We are deeply concerned that the Department is not using the discretion and resources provided by Congress to fulfill this responsibility," the delegation wrote in the letter sent yesterday.
