Rep. Capuano Farewell Letter to Watertown Constituents

December 23, 2002

Dear Friends:

I write today to offer a fond farewell to you, my Watertown constituents.

When Congressional redistricting takes effect in January, Watertown will be moved from the 8th Congressional District to the 7th Congressional District, which is represented by Congressman Edward Markey. I know he will serve you well in the House of Representatives.

When I first entered Congress in 1999, I was unaware of some of the finer points about Watertown. Would the proposed 1432 runway negatively impact Watertown? What was Project SAVE? And, most importantly, why would anyone shop for men's suits anywhere other than Eastern Clothing?

Over time, I learned the answers to these and many other questions. I also came to understand and appreciate many issues of importance to the Watertown community - such as redesigning Watertown Square, creating and preserving affordable housing and improving public education. I appreciate all you have done to make me feel at home here. While I will no longer represent Watertown, I do not regard that as the end of the road. If I can ever be of assistance in the future, do not hesitate to contact me.

It has been my pleasure and my privilege to represent you in Washington. I wish you all the best in the future.
