I write today to offer a fond farewell to you, my Beacon Hill constituents.
When Congressional redistricting takes effect in January, Beacon Hill will be moved from the 8th Congressional District to the 9th Congressional District, which is represented by Congressman Stephen Lynch. This is a homecoming for Congressman Lynch, who represented the Hill in the State Senate. I know he will serve you well in the House of Representatives.
When I first entered Congress in 1999, I was unaware of some of the finer points about Beacon Hill. Would the proposed 1432 runway negatively impact Beacon Hill? What was the Vilna Shul? And, most importantly, is there ever an empty, legal parking place on Charles Street?
Over time, I learned the answers to these and many other questions. I also came to understand and appreciate many issues of importance to the Beacon Hill community - such as refurbishing the Longfellow Bridge, improving public education and America's involvement in conflict abroad. I appreciate all you have done to make me feel at home on the Hill. While I will no longer represent Beacon Hill, I do not regard that as the end of the road; if I can ever be of assistance in the future, do not hesitate to contact me.
It has been my pleasure and my privilege to represent you in Washington. I wish you all the best in the future.
Congressman Mike Capuano
