Rep. Capuano Farewell Letter to Belmont Constituents

December 23, 2002

Dear Friends:

I write today to offer a fond farewell to you, my Belmont constituents.

When Congressional redistricting takes effect in January, Belmont will be moved from the 8th Congressional District to the 7th Congressional District, which is represented by Congressman Edward Markey. I know he will serve you well in the House of Representatives.

When I first entered Congress in 1999, I was unaware of some of the finer points about Belmont. Would the proposed 1432 runway negatively impact Belmont? What sort of impact was the Big Dig having on Belmont?

Over time, I learned the answers to these and many other questions. I also came to understand and appreciate many issues of importance to the Belmont community - such as improving public education, improving Pleasant Street and Cushing Square and America's involvement in conflict abroad. I appreciate all you have done to make me feel at home here. While I will no longer represent Belmont, I do not regard that as the end of the road. If I can ever be of assistance in the future, do not hesitate to contact me.

It has been my pleasure and privilege to represent you in Washington. I wish you all the best in the future.
