Congressman Mike Capuano Receives Subcommittee Assignments
July 26, 2002 -- Congressman Mike Capuano, who was recently appointed to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, was named to its Subcommittee on Highways and Transit and its Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment.
The Subcommittee on Highways and Transit oversees issues relating to our nation's highway infrastructure, including road construction and the development of national surface transportation policy. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over many programs such as the federal aid highway program, the federal transit program, highway safety regulation, and regulation of hazardous materials transportation.
The Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment oversees issues relating to water resources development, conservation, and pollution control. A great deal of the work done by the Army Corps of Engineers is administered through this subcommittee, including projects to address flooding, beach erosion, and shoreline protection.
"My subcommittee work is a great opportunity to delve deeply into issues relating to infrastructure development, highway safety, water conservation and coastal protection - all issues important to my constituents and the Commonwealth," stated Congressman Capuano.
Congressman Capuano is also a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and serves as a Democratic Regional Whip.
