Dear Friends,
Yesterday, President Donald Trump lit up Twitter again when he tweeted that Obama “had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before” election day – all relevant tweets are shown in full at the end of this comment. Without offering a shred of evidence, the current President clearly implies that the prior President acted without legal authority. Freedom of speech is one of our most cherished rights but it does not absolve us from acting responsibly. This is especially true if one holds the highest office in our great nation.
These are the most serious allegations I have heard since Watergate and they must be treated as such. Nothing – absolutely nothing – should get in the way of uncovering the truth in this matter.
It's time for the FBI to immediately share as much information as they can without compromising any investigations and report to the American people and the Congress of the United States as soon as practicable. If any aspects are classified, then President Trump should exercise his Executive Authority to declassify whatever can be shared so America and the world can get to the truth.
Today, President Trump called on Congressional Committees to investigate all this. Although I do believe that there is an element of “bait-and-switch” to his call … attempting to change focus from his involvement with Russia to this, I also believe that Congress and the FBI are fully capable of conducting multiple investigations at the same time.
America and Congress must be assured that the FBI and the Justice Department can do their jobs without political interference. The only way this can be accomplished is if the Congressional investigation is conducted by a truly bi-partisan Special Joint Committee consisting of an EQUAL number of Democrats and Republicans.
We all anxiously look forward to Speaker Ryan’s response to these calls to investigate.
In case you missed it, here are the four tweets sent out in the early morning of March 4th from President Trump’s twitter handle @realDonaldTrump. They have not been edited, the wording and typos are all directly from that twitter feed.
