An update from the office of U.S. Representative Michael E. Capuano 7th Congressional District of Massachusetts
May 9, 2016
My Washington office telephone number is currently the subject of a spoofing attack. According to the Federal Communications Commission, spoofing “occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your Caller ID display to disguise their identity.” We have reported this matter to the appropriate officials and it is under investigation by the Federal Communications Commission’s Enforcement Bureau. Because spoofing is a federal crime under the Truth in Calling Act, it has also been reported to the Capitol Police. We apologize to anyone who has had difficulty reaching our office. We hoped that the calls would subside but since they have continued at a high volume, we wanted to let you know. If you are having trouble reaching the office, you can call our District Office at 617-621-6208. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.
