Green Line Extension

This week I attended a ceremony in Somerville marking progress on efforts to extend the Green Line through Somerville to Medford. I have long advocated for this project and look forward to the day when this extension is operational. State officials have commenced the design and environmental review process, working with the Federal Transit Administration to advance this project. Additionally, a Project Advisory Group will be established to provide local input through the design and construction process. We will work now to secure federal funding to help finance the extension.

Recent Votes

This week the House considered H.R. 2895: National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007. This legislation establishes a national affordable housing trust fund to construct or rehabilitate 1.5 million housing units over the next ten years. Between $800 million and $1 billion a year will be available to states and local communities to increase their affordable housing stock. Money from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration will be used for the Trust Fund. I have worked with many of my colleagues to establish an affordable housing trust fund since coming to Congress and am pleased to see H.R. 2895 advance. I voted YES. The legislation passed in the House and the entire vote is recorded below:

The House also considered H.R. 3056: Tax Collection Responsibility Act of 2007. This legislation repeals the authority of the IRS to employ private debt collectors to pursue those who owe outstanding taxes. Instead, this responsibility will rest with the IRS. This change will help keep taxpayers' personal information confidential and ensure that appropriate tactics and more cost-effective approaches are used to collect debts. The bill would also extend important tax relief to small businesses providing goods and services to the government and equitable tax treatment for residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Finally, the bill also eliminates unintended tax incentives for those who renounce their citizenship. I voted YES. H.R. 3056 passed in the House and the entire vote is recorded below:
